Matalan has confirmed that its Isle of Wight store in Newport has now re-opened.
The much-loved chain, which sells a mix of clothing and homewares, closed all of its stores across the country almost 8 weeks ago.
During the lockdown, period staff have been working tirelessly to prepare stores for re-opening with enhanced health and safety measures and strict social distancing guidelines to ensure a safe shopping environment.
As a result of the change in Government guidance on 1st May to include homeware as essential retail in England, Matalan has confirmed they are starting to reopen selected stores.
The Isle of Wight store has been selected as one of the first to open with the Click and Collect service also resuming, allowing Islanders to order online and pick up in Newport.
Customers can expect to see a limit on the number of people allowed in the store, alongside a change in the store layout, floor markings, hand sanitisers and the temporary closing of fitting rooms and toilets.
Boris Johnson is expected to make further announcements regarding the easing of lockdown in due course, with a wider range of non-essential retail set to re-open from Monday 15th June.
