A 41-year-old man who stole more than £1,600 worth of goods from B&Q in Newport – including a drill and 2 hot tubs – has been sent to prison for 8 weeks. Jamie McClelland, now of Freefolk Green in Havant but previously of Rew Street, Gurnard pleaded guilty to theft from a shop and driving whilst disqualified when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Tuesday (8th April). The court heard, through prosecutor Liz Miller, that on 6th August 2023, McClelland and a female left B&Q in Newport with a trolley of goods- including 2x Lay-Z spa hot tubs. CCTV footage showed the pair leaving the store and heading for a Volvo estate that was parked in the car park. Police were notified of the high-value theft and upon finding out, went to McClelland’s home address in Gurnard. It was here that they found the boot of the V50 open and all the goods inside. Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were able to recover the entire haul of items which was valued at around £1,687.07. Among the items recovered were 2x hot tubs, a drill, USB sockets and plugs, screwdrivers, a plier set, a label printer and several MAC power tools. After investigating, it was also found the McClelland was also driving whilst disqualified after he was banned from the roads back in March of that year for some 18-months. A suspended sentence order was also imposed at that time. Defending McClelland, Brigid O’Hagan, told the court that at the time of the offences the 41-year-old was involved with illegal substances and that since the events of 6th August he had turned things around and was free from drugs and in the process of starting up a wax melts business. Magistrates opted to activate the suspended sentence order and sent McClelland to prison for 8-weeks. He was banned from driving for 602 days and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Needs eight years to sink in to it’s thick skull. IF jails weren’t filled with the worlds rejects, then perhaps longer sentences could be given to our own homegrown trash once again.
Hahaha wax melt business!!
Just got to say that your woke then. Your get away with it
He’s a master criminal. Prison is the only way to keep us safe.
Now THAT I actually have no words for. A wax melts business ffs!
Les Battersby tier shenanigans
This man should have got longer than 8weeks! He had stole so much more than this. He was so messed up in the head and the amount of things he used to say about women and children was disturbing. He should have never have come to the island in the first place. Disgusting man.
He wouldn’t have. Sentencing guideline place it on the lowest end by virtue of it being unplanned, ill thought out, and he was off his face at the time. Even disgusting people have to be somewhere…but at least he’s inside at the moment.
every criminal let off should be housed in the same roads as those that defined sentencing guidelines and the magistrates that don’t impose the maximums. When they have served their sentences, they should be housed next door to all the karens, that make excuses for them.
Sentencing guidelines are statute, so take it up with this government if you don’t agree. Highly doubt he could afford a house where they live. Rishi is a billionaire. Mind you, if he could he’s unlikely to want two plastic baths from B and Q, stolen or not is he?
I don’t make excuses for anyone. Read what I actually say, not what you think I say. I also don’t make knee-jerk reactions based purely on emotion and am capable of understanding why we have rules, guidelines and sentences for the benefit of all. If we had just one, across the board sentence, a child pinching a rubber from school could spend the rest of his life in prison with this bloke on one side and Ronnie Biggs on the other. Do try to think outside the box.
Stop making excuses for the disgusting low lives karen – lets get them housed next door to you and see how long your virtue signalling lasts
Read what I ACTUALLY say, not what YOU THINK I say.
Bit like your second husband he was a looney toon
What ? I don’t even have a first husband let alone a second one
Mr arcus supermarket cleaner carry on cleaning my siht in the toilets
Strange Sainsbury’s cleaner with no front teeth
More scum useless total rejects ..truned around ye…never happens.
I don’t personally care whether he “turned things around”, he made the decision to steal at the time and should have to suffer the full (obviously lenient) consequences of that action.
Sorry everybody but I actually hope he gets released early because I’ve got a couple of candles at home I need sorting out!
TWO hot tubs?!!! LOL! That’s pretty ambitious!
Obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed, now he’s screwed!
There must be more imaginative ways to punish him that putting him up for 8 weeks
