A camera used to capture wildlife roaming around an allotment in Ryde has recorded something else of interest – a male stealing a bag of compost.
Network Ryde – the local youth service run by Ryde Town Council – recently established an allotment at Quarry Road in the town.
Excited to see what wildlife visits the area of a night, the team set up a wildlife camera that used infrared to see in the dark. However, on Saturday night the camera captured an unknown male stealing a bag of compost from the allotment – presumably for his own gardening purposes.
Children and staff from Network Ryde have been left ‘infuriated’ and ‘disappointed’ with the actions of this individual.
Taking to social media, a spokesperson for Network Ryde has said:
“To me the cost of the compost is irrelevant, however, the principle behind stealing from the young people has infuriated me. The young people fundraise for the plants and materials for the plot and are incredibly disappointed with this.
“We work hard to build positive relationships between young people and the community and as you can see here this is an adult male taking the compost.
“If you know who this might be please ask them to return our compost!”

The matter has been reported to the Police, with a full video recording of the theft handed over as evidence.

so a crime has been committed and yet the media, chooses to block out the face – how are we supposed to see if we know the person and then phone the police with the name of the person.

Almost certainly the police will have asked for the face to be obscured, thereby not prejudicing any future trial.
But how could a photo of chummy caught in the act prejudice a trial. He will probably plead guilty to reduce his fine.
The camera did catch wildlife. A Ryde rat.

Why would a newspaper allow a thief to hide
Buy them another bag of compost and a gardening voucher to redeem Yourself. Plonker. Is it worth the shame ? Stealing from children ?
I’m wondering the same as many others who have commented here, why hide his face?! He deserves to be named and shamed. Show his face, I’m sure someone would soon shed light on who he is! I don’t understand why criminals (which this man is) always get protected in this way. In this particular case, there’s photographic evidence of him committing the theft, so no reason not to reveal his identity!
My guess would be retaliation, what you have to remember is the people posting these story’s live “just up the road” and can be found at any time hence the selective comment system
