UPDATED WITH VIDEO: Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat has launched this morning (Thursday) to assist a 22ft yacht off the Dorset coast.
The volunteer crew of Yarmouth RNLI were tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard shortly after 10:30 when a yacht reported being in difficulty off Hengistbury Head.
The All Weather Lifeboat is currently on scene assisting the stricken vessel, which has lost its backstay – a piece of standing rigging on a sailing vessel that runs from the mast to the rear of the boat.
UPDATE: The vessel ‘White Osbeat’ has been towed back to Yarmouth by the RNLI lifeboat in a south westerly wind gusting at 35 knots (Force 7).
The RNLI have released video footage of the dramatic rescue.
