The Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club are on the look out for kayakers and canoeists to act as safety boats for the 65th Pier to Pier Swim Race on Saturday 12th August.
In order to run the event safely, safety boats are needed to stay close to and act as a guide for the mass of swimmers who will swim across Sandown Bay from the site of the old Shanklin Pier to the existing Sandown Pier. Ryde Inshore Rescue, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat and members of the Shanklin Deep Sea Fisherman will also be on hand.
Kayakers or canoeists who can spare a Saturday afternoon are being asked to meet at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club at around 13:00 before paddling towards Sandown. Then at 14:30, when the race starts, volunteers will act as the first point of call safety boats for the swimmers, as well as guiding the swimmers across the Bay.
If you are able to assist and would like further details contact either adrian.brown6@talktalk,com of the Isle of Wight Kayak Club or [email protected], the race safety officer.
