A joint operation involving HM Coastguard, Ryde Inshore Rescue and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has led to the successful rescue of a man and woman from mud at Ryde Harbour this morning (Boxing Day).
Ryde Coastguard Initial Response Team, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ryde Inshore Rescue were tasked to the scene off Ryde Esplanade at around 06:10 after receiving a 999 call.
Upon arrival of the emergency services it was discovered both a man and woman, aged in her 50s, had become stuck fast in thick mud, leading to the assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service being requested.
After being freed by 06:40, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service conveyed the man and woman to St Mary’s Hospital as they were suffering from the effects of possible hypothermia.
