70-year-old pensioner John Gay from Shanklin has been remanded in custody today (Wednesday) after being charged by Police following an online grooming sting by Youtube user ‘Nonce Hunter’.
Last night a video circulated around social media showing Mr Gay at Woking train station on Sunday evening, allegedly waiting for who he believed to be a 14-year-old girl named Jenna. However, the retired former coach driver was met by Shane Brannigan – a known campaigner against paedophiles who goes under the name of ‘Nonce Hunter’.
Surrey Police have confirmed that Mr Gay, of Wilton Road, has been charged with two attempted sexual offences; one of attempting to cause or incite the sexual exploitation of a child and the other for attempting to groom a child.
The OAP will now spend Christmas and New Year behind bars before he appears at Guildford Crown Court in January.
