A familiar face will be returning to the town council board in Ventnor.
James Toogood won Thursday’s by-election in Bonchurch and Ventnor East, which means he will re-join Ventnor Town Council, 2 months after stepping down from the Ventnor West role.
Mr Toogood secured more than two-thirds of the votes (121).
Adrian Whittaker, for the Vectis Party – local control, local decision, received 44 votes.
Speaking after his win, Mr Toogood said:
“I am thrilled.
“I enjoyed meeting residents and listening to their wishes and concerns and look forward to working with them.”
Of a possible 727 eligible residents, only 166 people voted — a turnout of 22.8%. A total of 1 ballot paper was rejected.
The by-election was triggered when longstanding member Brian Lucas stepped down.

If people can’t be bothered to vote, then they have given up the right to complain
Doesn’t matter who one votes for, same outcome.
What’s the point in voting when those you vote for just let you down? You are just wasting your time.
Remember people in the past have laid down there life so we have the right to vote don’t let all those life’s be wasted
