Kathy Grogan from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has been shortlisted for a Biodiversity Champion Award as part of the CIRIA Big Biodiversity Challenge.
Kathy has been nominated by colleagues from Arc Consulting and Artecology for her outstanding work on the Wildlife Trust’s Forest School, Beach School, Woodland Therapy, Wildlife Tots and Wildlife Watch.
The Biodiversity Champion Award celebrates those who inspire and engage people with nature, and who go the extra mile to enrich and enhance biodiversity.

“Kathy’s passion for wildlife and conservation is inspiring because it is utterly authentic and lifelong. Her enthusiasm shines out just through the sheer number of groups and activities that she has begun and sustains for people of all ages across the Isle of Wight!
“This determination and perseverance, to make wildlife encounter possible for hundreds of people year after year, is remarkable. From toddlers and schools, communities, families, to people recovering from mental illness or wanting to develop careers in conservation, a huge spectrum of Island residents and visitors have benefited from Kathy and her colleagues’ projects.
“Her personal commitment to biodiversity is so compelling that it rubs off on everyone she works with, motivating them too to get involved, take action, and be a champion for wildlife too!”

CIRIA is the construction industry research and information association. It’s a neutral, independent and not-for-profit body, linking organisations with common interests and facilitate a range of collaborative activities that help improve the industry. Its annual Biodiversity Challenge Awards encourages industry innovation and best practice for biodiversity across a range of categories.
The Isle of Wight is well-represented again this year with Island Road’s Eel pass project with the Environment Agency, Artecology and Arc nominated for the Clients Award and Island biodiversity experience a clear influence in 2 more shortlisted projects.
Winners will be announced at CIRIA’s BIG Biodiversity Awards on the evening of 14th September 2017 at the Blue Fin Building in London.
