Plastic Mermaids, the incredible young 5-piece hailing from the Isle of Wight, have signed to Sunday Best Records.
The band have also announced their first headline show off the Island for over a year to celebrate; they will be headlining a Sunday Best Records party at London’s Camden Assembly as part of the Emergence series (in association with War Child and Ticketmaster).
Sunday Best label head, Sarah Bolshi had this to say on the new addition:
“We’re delighted to welcome Plastic Mermaids to the Sunday Best family. I have fallen in love with their creativity and approach to their music and I can’t wait to get started on sharing their music with more people.
“The Sunday Best Records showcase in association with War Child will be the first chance to show off our latest signings to the people of London as well as some brilliant new acts on the bill. It will be a very special evening so please don’t miss it!”
And the band themselves are just as thrilled:
“We’re super happy to be signing with Sunday Best! Rob da Bank and Bestival have been supportive of the band since we started, with us all being based on the Isle of Wight, so Sunday Best feels like a natural home for us.
“Really looking forward to getting some new music out to the world and working with a new group of enthused people, it feels like the start of our next chapter, which is a pretty exciting thing.”
Plastic Mermaids first came to the label’s attention when they released their debut EP, ‘Drømtorp,’ to much critical acclaim. 2 more EPs, several triumphant confetti-covered hometown shows and lots of surfing followed.
Rob da Bank, founder of Sunday Best and Bestival is as excited as anyone for new music and new gigs:
“I’ve loved the Isle of Wight music scene since I was a music journalist in my previous life. I’ve signed bands, put them on at my festivals and played them on Radio 1 and numerous other channels throughout the last 25 years. So I’m super delighted to sign what I think could be the best ever band the Island has produced in the form of Plastic Mermaids”.
The 5-piece are finishing the recording of their much anticipated debut album; mixing piano ballads with soaring strings with electronic beats with delicate vocals, with the end result a crashing, swirling ethereal soundscape of beautiful and unique melodies. Renowned for their electrifying live performances, Plastic Mermaids will be back with new songs and a new stage show, and ready to captivate new and old fans alike.
