The Isle of Wight is said to be the 4th happiest seaside location in the UK.
Sea vs City research, carried out by Thomas Sanderson, has found that those living by the sea are the happiest, with the Isle of Wight wading in as the 4th happiest seaside location in the country.
After analysing property figures, monthly salary, crime rates, the number of open spaces and unemployment data for the 20 most populated cities and locations by the sea, it was revealed that overall locations by the sea scored a higher happiness score than city locations.
Locations by the sea scored a combined happiness score of 110 whereas city locations scored 92 and, as each factor was rated out of 40, the highest possible happiness score is 200.
With an average house price of £305,628, a crime rate of 68 crimes per 1,000 people, 57 listed parks and a low unemployment rate, the Isle of Wight scored a happiness score of 126 out of 200.
Of the top 15 locations with the highest happiness scores, 11 are by the sea. The happiest sea locations are:
| Location | Happiness Score |
| Cardiff | 172 |
| Morecambe | 132 |
| Weymouth | 130 |
| Isle of Wight | 126 |
| Weston-super-Mare | 122 |
| Southend-on-Sea | 120 |
Sunderland is the least happiest location with a score of 53, followed by Bradford and Blackpool with scores of 54 and 65 respectively.

Well, that’s a surprise, according to all you lot who post on here, all you do is moan and bitch.
Maybe you should all move to Blackpool, where you might feel at home.

Yet every week too many planning applications for hundreds of houses !!! The Island will be ruined as it’s not just that each new house may have 2 cars all adding to the total gridlock on our already overcrowded Island.
Low unemployment rate,?
Was thinking the same. The stats are incorrect, where did they get this information from? Unemployment is high here
a crime rate of 68 per 1,000 people,
Who are they kidding ! ! !
I must be very unfortunate as I only ever meet grumpy islanders!
so basically ‘money’ and ‘grass’ makes people happy then
that would explain the drugs then
Monthly salary good?? Most of us are on minimum wage!!
Sadly, this collection of “UK” locations has totally omitted any location in Northern Ireland. I am certain that some of those would have scored more highly than the Isle of Wight!
