Bryan Flawell, a prison officer at HMP Isle of Wight and a retained firefighter for the community of East Cowes, received his MBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Thursday).
It was announced in the New Year’s Honours List that Bryan would receive an MBE for services to HM Prison Service and the local community.
Bryan made the journey to London with his family yesterday and was handed his medal by HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles.
As well as carrying out his day job at the Island’s prisons, Bryan is an on-call firefighter in East Cowes. When he can, both day and night, Bryan responds to pager alerts and rushes to man the pump in order to protect Islanders.
