ISLE OF WIGHT PRIDE CANCELLED FOR THE SECOND YEAR RUNNING

Published:

Isle of Wight Pride, which was due to take place in July, has been cancelled for the second year running, Trustees have announced.

Those behind the annual event say they have been following the developments with the coronavirus pandemic and, in particular, the roadmap out of lockdown.

Although almost all restrictions are set to be lifted on 21st June – with ever-growing confidence that this will happen – the Trustees have taken the decision to cancel the 2021 staging of Pride after consultation with volunteers and sponsors.

Isle of Wight Pride organisers say that the major considerations have been the lack of time to prepare following the relaxing of restrictions and the risk of investing money in planning for an event that might not be able to take place, which could result in significant debt and perhaps loss of the charity and the event itself in future years.

The safety and wellbeing of the community and volunteers has also been considered with organisers saying the decision is not one taken lightly. The financial position of sponsors has also been a deciding factor.

Several small community engagement activities and events will be held later in the year, should the roadmap go to plan, with a view to bringing Isle of Wight Pride back on 16th July 2022.

and why was that post removed that said “good ”

the poster is entitled to be against a rally or parade.

there are some on the island who absolutely despise all this “in your face, look at me, mentality” ..their opinion is as valid as someone who wholeheartedly loves the parades

Island echo is a business, this is their playground. I guess they can delete what they like including posts that are clearly homophobic.

As for the “in your face, look at me, mentality” you describe? What about the in your face straight 20 somethings that lout it about at night coming out the pubs trying to prove too all the girls who is the strongest of them all. Like a troupe of chips. Cuts both ways mate!

Of course they can “delete what they like”, but if they delete posts that are non-offensive and do not contravene their house rules, then they are restricting our freedom of speech, something I feel sure they would not want to do.

This was PC Joe Finches project wasn’t it? Bring him back to campaign for it. I believe he has much spare time on his hands now.

I’m really offended right now. This is the second year! Ugh – corona couldn’t ruin anything else.
