It was a proud moment for staff at the Newport branch of NFU Mutual when they heard that their sponsored guide dog ‘Stevie’ had completed his training and been placed to be a guide on the Isle of Wight for local man Brett Lamplough.
Stevie is 1 of 27 guide dog puppies that the leading rural insurance business worked hard to fundraise for since 2015. In total, staff across NFU Mutual’s UK-wide network raised more than £280,000 for the charity and undertook all sorts of activities to gather the money together – from cake sales to quiz nights and breaking Guinness World Records.
Guide dog Stevie was born on 19th January 2016 and is a Golden Retriever cross German Shepherd. Colleagues at NFU Mutual in Newport have been following his progress since he was just 6 weeks old, and the news that he was matched with Brett locally on the Isle of Wight has brought about a real sense of pride.
John Heather, Senior Agent at the NFU Mutual Branch office in Newport, said:
“We were delighted to hear that Stevie had completed his training and had been matched with Brett locally. He will be a wonderful companion and guide.
“Our team were very keen to invite them both to visit our office to learn more about their exceptional partnership. We have stocked up on a special treat or two to celebrate when our guests arrive! It‘s wonderful to have the opportunity to meet Brett and follow Stevie’s progress. It really brings to life our how our fundraising has made a difference.”
Stevie has now been a guide to Brett for more than 6 months, and has already made a huge impact on his life.
“Thanks to Stevie I am now able to return to volunteering on the Island with my local hospital. He has made such a difference to my life and I am now the Fundraising Organiser for Guide Dogs on the Isle of Wight; in fact I am about to start a library tour on the Island promoting our amazing charity and the services it provides.
“I simply could not have done any of this without my amazing guide dog Stevie.”
