ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL ORGANISERS ‘EXPLORING OPTIONS’ FOR 2021 EVENT

Published at:

An announcement is due to be made about this year’s Isle of Wight Festival next week, according to organisers.

The team behind the annual event say they are ‘exploring options’ for this year’s 4-day festival following Boris Johnson’s big reveal of his roadmap out of lockdown on Monday.

Currently, it seems unlikely that the festival will be able to go ahead on the planned date of 17th-20th June 2021 as this comes before Step Four of the roadmap on 21st June, which will see large events permitted to take place across England.

However, it could mean that organisers will look to push the event back into July or August.

It is hoped that by the end of June all restrictions will be lifted, although social distancing, face coverings and the ‘work from home’ message may remain.

An Isle of Wight Festival spokesperson has this week said:

“Following the Prime Minister’s statement last night, we’re exploring our options and we’ll be back with more information next week.”

There shouldn’t be any festivals until everyone has had the vaccine unless they can keep 2 metres apart. They should be banned until 2022 when hopefully everything will be back to normal. if they go ahead there will be another flare up and another lockdown just so people can listen to music. Stay at home and put the radio on and keep safe.

I completely agree with you, the organiser himself was quite open in saying that events staff were well placed to organise and help with the vaccination effort BUT and correct me if I am wrong but does anyone know if said person put himself out there and encouraged his events staff to volunteer at vaccination centres? Or was it really only about getting paid? Like I said if I am wrong please tell me.

The thing also is, that I have just heard that it’s going to be held from the 17th to 20th June and that the organisers do not want to refund everyone. I play in a band and there is no way I’m going out playing, not even busking. I’ve had my Vaccine and still I keep away from people. I work nights as a carer support worker, have worked through all the lock downs. The only mistake our Government made is setting a date to when everything goes back to normal, on the 21st June. How can anyone put a date on this? Has our government got a crystal ball? Or have they got their time machines already, that we are all meant to get in 2028?

Just by looking at the picture shows it is not a good idea this year.
Magically it is not going to be alright on June 21 – it will take time.
Not everyone will have been vaccinated by then – it is hoped to achieve that by July 31st.
Though we all would like everything to be back to “normal” as we know it – this summer may be too soon.
The Isle of Wight Festival will do themselves a huge favour by cancelling this year.

It’s the end of the world as we know it.

Just because at that point in time we will be out of lockdown and close to what normal looked like before COVID, doesnt mean he should be inviting christ knows how many people over the social distancing rules will still be in force, face masks will still be required and the stay at home as much as you can will still be in force.
Cancel the inconveniently placed festival until 2022 when things hopefully will be back to a normal we can all remember and even better move the site back to it’s original site away from central newport so it doesnt interfere with others that do not wish to go.

Does anyone know if Cowes Week is going ahead this year?
If they allow festival to go ahead then people will be expecting Cowes week too.
If Festival does go ahead but for a later date come July/August, it could clash with Cowes week dates and cause even more aggro.
I agree, everything should be cancelled this year. If you want to get drunk listening to music then sit in your garden, with a burger, pint of cider and listen to music there. Bring the festival home. Be much cheaper too for anyone out of work.

Are these promoters real people. They seem to be just interested in money and not welfare of the Island residents. leave it till everything is back to normal.

You need a really enormous area for every one to stand 2 metres away from other people in all directions. .

Here are some basic sums:

For 2500 people (50 people x 2 metres x 50 people x 2 metres) to stand 2 metres apart in all directions would require a space of 100 metres x 100 metres = 10,000 square metres. Therefore, 10,000 people will need four times that = 40,000 square metres.

So 50,000 people will need 200,000 square metres. (5 x 40,000 square metres)
Two hundred thousand square metres.

Then, you have the problem of say, someone in the middle wanting to leave that crowd – how do they exit the crowd and stay 2 metres apart?

How annoying – should have organised it for the following weekend…what a difference a day makes, 20th June we are in a ‘pandemic’ 21st you can go to a festival, as usual it’s all totally nonsensical; but hey ho, I just hope they can reorganise it for July with short notice!

Year 2021 must be postponed, ( Pop Festival , Cowes Etc ) lifting the lock down over Christmas showed how vulnerable the Ialand is to the Pandemic .

What you have all seem to have forgotten also is the livelihood of musicians not the big bands making mega bucks, but the smaller outfits who received nothing for the past year. My son in a band has been on benefits since March and out of work due to there being no bar or catering work to keep him going. If you all work and have a job lucky you, spare a thought for all the unemplpoyed or people as myself who have spent the last year living totally on my own. The only thing that has kept me off the edge is music. Great therapy for everyone.

Not everyone will be vaccinated by next year not everyone wants to be and rightly that’s there choice not everyone takes the flu jag will u ban them from events. When do we get bk to a normal life how long do we stop having human contact and joy in our lives. If there are people who choose to keep shielding or artists who don’t want to perform fair enough but the most vulnerable will have been vaccinated by then.

Yeah bring on the Covid Concerts, we are not the mainland, we are a small island and to put this event on would be crazy, oh hang on, Giddings & Co are.

Why.. ?

I think Giddings is missing a bit of brain !! Who in their right mind would want to mingle around in a crowd of over 50 thousand, mostly drunk and drugged, whilst this epidemic is still; about… what insurance company will protect those that get Covid..? Including performers..? This festival and any others that are in smallar3eas with large crowds should be stopped until maybe next year ! Obvious Giddings is just i it for the money, no care at all about people’s safety. Maybe they should cancel this festival completely… got too big.. too many ‘ accidents ‘ did someone die there last year… how about the year before.. and before…
