Isle of Wight duo Wet Leg (Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers) have released 2 songs recorded with James Ford for Spotify Singles: a cover of ‘Daisy’ by Ashnikko and a reworking of their album track ‘Convincing’.
The most successful band to originate from the Isle of Wight in recent years have also been confirmed to support Harry Styles on his 2023 UK & European tour –including 4 shows at London’s Wembley Stadium – and will play New York 4 times this December.
The 1st single is a cover of ‘Daisy’ by Ashnikko – a song that soundtracked the pair’s initial foray into songwriting together at Teasdale’s old house in Hackney.
Chambers reflects:
“I remember going to stay with Rhian around the time we recorded Chaise with Jon McMullen, and she had told me about this artist she’d been listening to loads. She sang and played ‘Daisy’ on the guitar in the morning while we had coffee. It feels like another little circle coming round in our Wet Leg world, getting to make this cover.”
Their 2nd offering is a reworking of album track “Convincing”, the only song released so far with Hester on lead vocals.
Hester explains:
“Most of our album was written in the depths of 2020, and right up to April 2021 when we went into the studio. Since live music has opened back up, we play some tracks just as they were recorded, but ‘Convincing’ is one of the songs that has gone through a little shapeshift over time as we’ve been playing gigs for the last year. This version we recorded with James leans into the more mellow and woozy world it exists in our live sets.”

The tired and tested ‘being different’ yet in reality following the well trodden path of looking attractive to all genders, suggestive lyrics, posh but use bad swearing or crude suggestive sexual words, gestures to give common appeal to all.
They have already made it, I went to Festival and gave up trying to get in Big top to see them as the crowds were massive.
Nice to hear of a sucess story for Island people, their early videos were shot on the Island adding more appeal to me.
So, do the rest of the group get royalty payments or are they just “hired guns”? Some artists recognise the input of the other musicians and it helps with the longevity of the band. Best of luck anyway, everyone in the business is out to cream off what they can; I expect the management will have paid to put them on a tour so that will come out of the bands funds.
