A team of 11 cyclists from the Isle of Wight are on their way to Spain as part of a charity fundraising ride in memory of their friend, Darren Andrew.
The ‘Always with D’ team set off from St Thomas Square, Newport on Saturday 3rd August and are cycling 700 miles to San Sebastian in Spain. They plan to arrive on Monday (12th August).
The route includes the Col du Tourmalet which was one of the mountain section in this year’s Tour De France.
The team are riding in loving memory of 52-year-old Darren Andrew, who sadly passed away in January 2018. A keen sporting enthusiast, Darren had previously ridden to Santander and Nice with the team. The later ride raised £30,000 for Beaulieu Respite and KissyPuppy.
This year the 11 cyclists and their supporting families are raising money for Beaulieu Respite and Breathe Easy Isle of Wight – both Island charities that support so many families.
