ISLE OF WIGHT COVID-19 HOSPITAL FATALITIES SLOWING BUT NEW DEATH CONFIRMED

CORONAVIRUS CASES TOTAL RISES TO 74 BUT 20 PEOPLE HAVE NOW RECOVERED
Share on FacebookShare on X

Figures released by NHS England show that 34 Islanders have now sadly died with COVID-19 at St Mary’s Hospital, but it appears that the number of deaths has levelled out in recent weeks.

The first coronavirus death on the Isle of Wight was recorded on 22nd March and within 2 weeks that number had risen to 5. On 19th April, 4 weeks after the first death, a total of 16 people had sadly died in St Mary’s Hospital. In the 2 weeks that followed, the total number of fatalities climbed from 16 to 29, but since the start of May that number has increased by just 5 from 29 to 34.

A levelling of COVID-19 hospital deaths is clear, which is positive news in the fight against coronavirus. This is despite the number of confirmed cases shooting up to 178, which now includes those tested at home and at the testing facility in Newport.

Across the Island, a total of 48 people have now died from COVID-19. ONS figures show that 14 people have died outside of the hospital environment including 10 in care homes, 3 at home and 1 at Mountbatten Hospice – although this number is expected to be updated shortly with the most recent statistics.

NHS England says that the latest individual to die from COVID-19 passed away in the Isle of Wight’s only hospital on Sunday (17th May). The in-hospital death toll previously stood at 33.

Unfortunately, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 is unclear. Up until recently, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust has issued statements for each death at St Mary’s and has included recovery figures, but a statement hasn’t been issued in sometime. 25 recoveries were recorded on 5th May but the number hasn’t been updated since. Furthermore, it is unknown how many people within the community have recovered from COVID-19 after testing positive, although the latest information surrounding local deaths would suggest the majority.

As of 18th May, 178 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded on the Isle of Wight. This number remains fairly low in comparison to other areas, even after the launch of a testing facility at Medina Leisure Centre car park and home swabbing through the NHSX app.

How many people have been tested as a result of being traced and alerted through the nhsx app? And are these tests mostly positive or negative? I have the app and havent been alerted, yet anyway.

Well obviously no i dont want to recieve a ping through the app, i was just wondering if the trace element of the app is actually being tested and to what degree, does it and is it working? Is it pinging people who are then testing positive to find the unknowingly infected and protecting the rest of the population who dont have the pleasure of owning a nice new phone to run the app on?

My Daughter got pinged. It’s done in led to believe by postcode, not actually contacting people who then report sick. At the top of her road is an old people’s home, and the long happened after she was inside for two days. Luckily, nothing came of it.

The alert/ping is ment to come through if your phone has been within 2meters of another persons phone for 15mins whos then had a positive test which has been reported through the app.

Chas, here’s the latest: Britain could ditch its coronavirus contact-tracing app before it has even been rolled out nationwide, a senior government minister has admitted.

Communities secretary Robert Jenrick revealed the app – being piloted on the Isle of Wight – may need to ‘adapt’ or ‘move to a different model’. So you may or may not get a “ping” because it’s actually flawed.

Well i was wondering why theres been nothing in the media local or national to suggest how many
people have been tracked. Ive asked the people i know who have it and i know some of those people are quite social and none have been alerted/pinged. So i tought id ask here to reach a wider audience, and nobodys said ‘i have’ not even one of the apparent third or more of the island population who has a new shiney phone and the app can say theyve been tested as a result of being alerted/pinged/traced through the app alone. Er… sounds like the app trials going well then?

Yep. Average of 25 people a day reporting symptoms through the app but I havnt seen any numbers for people being told they’ve been in contact with someone with symptoms. 15 min contact time is too long.

15 minutes is a joke, there’s only one person I’m in contact with for that long and I live with her, I’m pretty sure she would tell me if she had symptoms without the use of an app

Its not designed to have a really short contact time. Otherwise the system probably couldn’t cope as lockdown is eased. 15 mins would pick up people sharing a commute, work colleagues, restaurants, dance partners (note South Korea’s nightclubs), meetings etc. It will come into its own when people are out and about. Needs testing in a city, that’s when the pings will start!

Watch it double once people start going back to work, streets are busy again, it’s like a normal day, schools in Bristol and France are now full of covid and having to reclose, China now has a second wave of covid sweeping through, it’ll just keep going and going

Enjoy the so few sunny days left Bob. Things will clearly become worse, and as a cure is seemingly unlikely, most will catch this over the coming months and years.

Just enjoy life NOW and hope you are not to badly affected when, as is likely you are stricken.

I have always said HMG know we will all be likely to catch this, hence getting more hospital beds ready for the coming deluge as lock down is eased. But what else could they do?

We can’t be on one long holiday forever, much as most would like to be.

Good luck and lets hope a vaccine is found before we are taken.

there isn’t going to be any deluge – the virus has been circulating the UK for over six months – loads of people had “flu like” symptoms in january/february

stop making this out to be a doomsday scenario – because it isn’t

This lie is all coming apart at the seams for them( liars, government) making excuses, it was the scientists no us! You mean the scientists that work for the liars( government) who gave false information about this virus,so we could all be imprisoned. CDC now says covid cannot be transmitted by surfaces. Well well.

Definitely dont believe the experts. Years of college, university and actually tackling things like Ebola and SARS-Cov02. I would definitely listen to somebody who wont even put their real name to their statement.

sadtooth – waste of time lockdown was partially lifted last week with boris saying go to work – people have been to the shops, beaches and parks in droves for over a week now…. no sudden upsurge in people feeling ill.

hundreds of thousands of people have been working non stop, all through this virus – in shops, on transport, in NHS, at councils, banks, phone, water, gas, electric and many more services that all those hiding away indoors need to prevent them from starving to death or going insane, because they are not working like they should be.

there will be no deluge. These so called experts are only saying what they are, because they are worried about looking stupid if they are wrong – so they opt for over cautious and then feel ok, when the reality falls short of their doomsday predictions. This is about their career management – not your safety.

Mr Justice.. of interest in the government efforts at monitoring what is said….

Infotagion – operated by a company called Iconic Labs and listed on the london stock exchange.

The Company announced a few months ago that, in partnership with Damian Collins MP, former Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Media and Sport, it had established a service to counter the dissemination of incorrect information, in particular through social media, that relates to the Covid-19 pandemic and its related economic and social effects.

The core of the service is a website (www.infotagion.co.uk ) on which users post screenshots of information which they have received from social media or elsewhere. The submitted information is checked by a team organised by Mr Collins, which includes experts from, inter alia, the WHO and Parliament.

The app doesn’t work Statistical data is warped, manipulated.and figures are manufactured for the masses.
And people still believe this BS that our beautiful government is on top and looking after us. Very strange that people actually still believe it
Science and WHO are to be trusted

If the figures are being manipulated then why on earth would we have such a high death rate compared to other countries and such a low recovery? If I was going to manipulate things then rather than lying about everything else I’d lie about that.

the tin foil hat brigade must be gutted – they will be moving on the next show stopper that they need to prep for.

Meanwhile the sheeple are demanding blue tooth bracelets for those who haven’t got a smart phone – of course must make sure you have your electronic tag everywhere you go – wrist scanning for entry.

some people are so gullible it beggars belief.

and those bone idle school teachers are acting like idiots practically demanding that someone in a hazmat suit is disinfecting the entire planet before they allow themselves outside the front door – lying lazy shits – cannot be bothered to work more like.

Your comment is offensive. Teachers are working from home, they have submitted work online for the children in their classes, so that with parent support the children can work from home. For those that should have taken exams they have to consider all their course work to finalize a grade for each of them. They are telephoning each child’s parent/guardian to make sure each child and their parent/guardian are kept in the loop and to iron out any queries or worries the parent may have. Plus they have to home-school their own children.
To call a teacher ‘a lying lazy shit’ is offensive and I ask for your comment to be deleted.

get to the school, open it up and get to work. Stop making excuses. hundreds of thousands of others have been turning up at their physical places of work and working non stop throughout this virus, such as transport, nhs, phone, electric, gas, food, water, banking, internet workers and many more that you depend on, whilst you are sat at home with your feet up recorder5.

ohh and stop being so easily offended – snowflake.

Just for the record. I am not the teacher, but a very close member of my family is. Before I retired, I worked in the NHS for many, many years. Both are by no means a ‘snowflake’.

I would just like to spare a thought of the people working and living in the care homes. I have seen what you have given up to do the best you can for the people you look after. Although I do not know any of you, you are heroes and you are in my thoughts. You’re amazing.

Over 2400 new infections daily, its not going away. In fact it’s probably coming to get you.
Who can trust the government..

Boris said less than 20,000 deaths would be a good result.

The truth is we will hit over 60,000 deaths before to long.

Blimey what rock have you been hiding under? Oh silly me, it’s the government and social media rock! Well let’s just start with the agenda 2030. No conspiracy, go to gov. Co.uk and you will see, that every government in the world signed up to this hideous plan. Then of course social credit system, check that out, all real no conspiracy. Once you have your head around that then you will understand what’s going on, but I expect your a sheep and don’t really want to know just messing with people.

Books, this is a globally grab for more power and control. Now that sounds ridiculous right? Yes it does. But please research agenda 21/2030 and social credit system. Once you research these you will see how the puzzle all comes together.

Maybe Rolls-Royce is part of this imaginary conspiracy….amidst so many other powerful companies/organisations now hitting the wall and all they employ with the added unbelievable nightmare of the fall-out encompassing all surrounding them who benefitted from these people having good jobs thereby keeping their local communities safely employed.
These odd people who somehow are blinkered,in denial or simply deliberately stirring up reaction to get some kind of twisted thrill from rightly outraged decent folk who are all doing everything they can to stay safe and keep others the same, are truly on another mental planet or are simply worthy of nothing more than brushing off as not all there.
Either just shake your head and smile at their delusioned ideas or simply ignore every crazy comment…..thousands upon thousands have died, over a million and a half ill….just that we know of….airlines, companies, industries all crashing within a mere couple of months.
These conspiracy theorists/denial prophets are beneath contempt; it will only hit real for them when it actually touches them or a loved one…..assuming they DO have any human feeling whatsoever, that is! There again, such crazy people always somehow dream up some other mad theory….these are folk who have their heads too much into their video games and sci-fi and have no existence in the real world.

Wednesday 16 you are way off the mark. Firstly everything I have said is factual! Not a conspiracy as you people like to refer to,fact. You may not believe ( I didn’t at first) or want to believe but the facts are there to be seen. Of course it’s your choice , you are free( at the moment) to choose a what youWant to believe . These facts are not my personal beliefs, so you are delusional if you think these posts I submit are lies and won’t affect you or your life. So either put your head back in the sand or educate yourself with some research.
