Isle of Wight’s very own folk band Kat Fight have released the music video for their latest single via Prison Records. The band’s latest single, Compton B*tch merges their psychedelic folk pop vibes with a story of love and the unhappiness that stems from a distancing between two people. What does the release of the single and video tell us about how digital technology has changed some fairly traditional industries?
Kat Fight Release New Music Video
The ability to bring out a single and accompanying video is testament to how far the music industry has come with the help of online media. Shot at Compton Beach, the video is a perfect example of the band’s musical style and the visual story they are trying to put across with their music. Being able to shoot the video at a local landmark and then share it across social media shows how musicians no longer have to rely on the old ways of getting radio play.
Digital Tech Helps Traditional Industries
The music industry isn’t the only one that has gained a new lease of life through digital methods. Gaming as a career didn’t even really exist competitively until people were able to stream their games through Twitch and then gain a following of people who wanted to watch them play. The accompanying social media community then helped the industry gain an online following that helped it become an industry set to continue growing. The most important factor was the gamer’s persona and their ability to attract viewers through gaming ability and personality.
Traditional games, such as bingo, have found new players online by repurposing the games with digital technology. People who want to engage with bingo are no longer bound by geography and can engage with many sites across the UK. As the list of new online bingo sites show, competition is strong between sites attempting to attract new players. Many therefore provide welcome offers and bonuses, such as free spins and no-deposit bonuses in order to outshine their competitors.
Moreover, the world of modelling was turned on its head as influencer culture began to grow, which was facilitated by digital technology. People could turn their creativity on Instagram into followers, which then attracted brands who would pay them for collaborations. This is no longer just for celebrities who have followers from being on TV shows, but for people who have smaller followers in niches that brands may want to take advantage of.
Being able to showcase their new music and music video, and share it online, shows just how useful digital technology and social media is for traditional industries. Signed to Isle of Wight label Prison Records, the band are clearly building a portfolio of music and drawing further attention to the Isle of Wight as a place of creativity. As other methods of updating traditional industries for online audiences also show, being savvy with how technology is used means that almost anyone with the passion and creativity can carve out a name for themselves.
