The Isle of Wight Zoo is tonight (Friday) mourning the loss of another one of their much-loved animals following the sad death of Diamond, an Indian tiger.
The Sandown zoo announced via the social networking site Twitter this evening that at 15:30 they put Diamond to sleep following a battle with kidney disease.
Staff have said that despite intensive care & intense love, Diamond was unable to fight his kidney disease to a point where his quality of life was diminishing.
A spokesperson has said:
“The loss is crippling, there are no combination of letters in the alphabet to explain it. Perhaps that’s all to say tonight.
“On his behalf, I’d like to thank all of you who let him into your hearts for adoring him. Now our priority is his doting sister Aysha”.
The death comes just weeks after the Zoo lost the lion Charlie Brown, who was put to sleep following an aneurysm back in December.
