Islanders aged 56-59 are now being invited to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine jab.
With almost 22million people across the UK now vaccinated, the programme is advancing to the next stage. Those aged 56 and above can now book a vaccine at the Riverside Centre in Newport and at the same time can book the second dose appointment for around 12 weeks later.
The vaccination programme is going so well on the Isle of Wight that it is known those in their early 50s are already being invited in to receive a jab at GP-led vaccination sites.
To date over 61,000 Islanders have been vaccinated against the coronavirus – around 44% of the Island’s entire population and 51.5% of the 16+ population. The Island (95.6%) has a slightly higher rate of over 65s first vaccinations than Portsmouth (95.3%) and Southampton (93%).
You can now also book a vaccination if you:
- are at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
- are an eligible frontline health or social care worker
- have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
- have a learning disability
- are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus
- are aged 56+ and have previously declined a vaccination
If you’ve had a positive COVID-19 test, you should wait 4 weeks from the date you had the test before you book an appointment.

Booked mine. I guess the un-believers won’t be.
Don’t read the Story on the Daily Mail before you go.
Good luck, you might be needing it
John, you read the Daily Mail, says it all. Can’t vaccinate against stupid.
Nice one mate, had my first jab. It’s good to know we’re on the right track to end this nightmare. All the covidiots would love this to go on for years.
Its a national promotion not just the Island! everywhere is doing well with vaccinations not just the Isle of wight!
Booked mine too.
Was hoping to be able to be able to have it done at Westridge but only offered slots at Riverway and on the mainland.
Got a message last week for mine.. happy days
This is great news but we must remember, you’re not fully vaccinated until you have had both jabs. Having one is a good start and should help to get the infection rate down and the pubs open sooner. 🙂
Im Happy Ive just booked my appointments for the 1st dose & the 2nd dose ,,,, now all i got to do is remember them LOL
Lol ..:) only time will tell eh?
I feel like crying about all this! And part of that is I’m unable to tell you people what I have discovered. Yes I would be called a conspiracy nut,but that’s nothing new. But it will come to fruition by next Christmas, and that will be to late for so many. Very sad 🙁
