Isle of Wight residents are being asked to help the Isle of Wight Council, the Clinical Commissioning Group and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust to shape the future of early help and support to help vulnerable people to live well, to live as independently as possible and to continue to live in their own home.
Having a good quality, accessible and useful ‘early help’ offer is essential to achieving the above aims. Early help support is currently provided by Age UK Isle of Wight, People Matter Isle of Wight and the Citizens Advice Bureau, funded by the council and the NHS.
The early help offered currently includes Care Navigators, Living Well Service, Good neighbour scheme, Help through crisis, Independent brokerage.
The Isle of Wight Council is asking for your views on what is working well and what could be done differently in this area. The Council want to provide support and ‘early help’ to promote, improve and protect Island residents’ wellbeing within ther Island’s community and to do this your views are essential.
You might be receiving support at the moment, you might have received support in the past or you might not need support at the moment, but thinking about the future, if you did need support what sort of things would you look for?
Councillor Karl Love, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Housing, said:
“Our administration is a listening one and wants to make sure Island people are fully engaged in the decisions we make for the benefit of all.
“The support services we arrange need to meet the needs of local people and our role is to ensure these services fit the bill and are of the highest quality.

“I encourage island residents, families, supporters and friends to get involved and give us their views. If you know anyone who would like to contribute their thoughts, ideas and experience, then please let them know about the survey too.
“Together we can shape a brighter future so please tell us what you think and what needs to change.

The survey should take 5 to 10 minutes to complete. All results will be considered in planning the future of the Living Well service. The closing date for this survey is Sunday 8th August 2021.
The problem with having the survey online is that it will not reach the isolated older people I care for who do not have the internet, are housebound and have no family on the Island. These are the people who really need help.
Well I agree, but I have to wonder if many of those people came to retire here from other areas on the mainland. Having said that, I’ve lived here all my life and know hardly anyone, Every single person that has moved in near me in recent years have come from up in the mainland somewhere, no Island people anywhere near me.
