Island residents are being asked to provide their views and ideas on how the Island can recycle more and reduce its waste as part of the annual residents’ waste and recycling survey.
The Isle of Wight Council survey is accepting responses until Friday 14th January.
The Council is responsible for the collection, treatment and disposal of household recyclables and waste on the Island — which is delivered through a contract with Amey.
Cabinet lead for environment, heritage and waste, Councillor Jonathan Bacon, said:
“We are already in the top 25 of Local Authorities in England for our recycling rate of 55.7 per cent and we are keen to improve this even further next year, with your help.
“Residents have already shown that they are up for the challenge of reducing their waste and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts so far. This survey is your chance to give us ideas and suggestions on how we could improve our waste and recycling services more so we’d really like to hear from you.”
Natasha Dix, strategic manager for contracts, waste and environment, said:
“I would also like to thank our residents for joining the recycling journey with us.

I’ve just completed this survey via the link, and would urge everyone to do so. However, I would like to see more recycling of items not currently handled by Amey, but recycled via the Terracycle Scheme. This includes bubble wrap, pet food pouches, toothpaste tubes, etc., pens, empty pill packets, crisp packets and so on. There are very few Terracycle locations on the Island. Would be great if they were more widely available, e.g. West Wight Sports Centre, as a community hub.
IF we were saving the Islands beauty for Island people I would be fine about such.
Yet, as we see, more planning, more homes with many for those now displaced by outsiders from the furthest corners of the planet. These mainland people then up sticks and move here from areas they too once loved but no longer feel at home or safe in themselves.
So, just who or what are we saving the planet for?
Seems to me just going to be turned into one large ghetto, with all the problems that is seen to bring everwhere else it has happened on the globe.
So a ton of extra plastic is NOTHING compared to the unfixable damage MP’s have allowed imo.
Just stop the bone heads smashing my bins and throwing them down the road would be a good start!

A lot of our waste is forced upon us by manufacturers who force completely unnecessary packaging on us. It is they who should carry the can and not the public.
