Islanders and those from further afield are being invited to sign up to ‘Challenge the Wight’, the night-time based walk across the Isle of Wight held to raise funds for the young people’s charity Challenge & Adventure.
This year’s event, which is being held on Saturday 24th June, is to start at The Needles Park at 20:00 and finish at Yaverland, Sandown the following day between 05:00-10:00. Each walker will be given a Challenge the Wight t-shirt and will receive a medal on completion, as well as a bacon bap and a warm drink.
The event is fully marshalled with front and back walking marshals and static marshalling points across the route. At 26.5 miles the walk is not for the faint hearted, but there is the option to complete a shorter 14-mile walk between The Needles and Carisbrooke Castle.
Entry for the full walk is just £30 for adults and £15 for children, however it is recommend that children are aged 10 and above and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Group rates are available.
If you don’t fancy a 26-mile trek then a more welcoming 4 mile walk for accompanied children will take place on Tennyson trail and into Freshwater Bay at 18:00 on 25th June. Entry is by donation. This short challenge is being used as part of the Isle of Wight schools ‘Junior Challenge the Wight’.
Anyone interested in registering can head to the official website at www.challengethewight.com, call 01983 527026 or email [email protected].
Sponsor forms will be provided for those wishing to raise additional sponsorship for Challenge & Adventure.
