The Island Savoyards have chosen Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat as the charity to benefit from money raised from the sale of programme at the upcoming performance of Sister Act the Musical.

Based on the iconic 1992 movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act the Musical is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music! It tells the hilarious story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, whose life takes an unexpected turn after she witnesses a murder. Deloris is placed under protective custody in the last place anyone would think to look for her… a convent! Disguised as Sister Mary Clarence, and under the suspicious watch of the Mother Superior, Deloris helps her convent sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

The Island Savoyards first staged Sister Act the Musical in 2014 when it was very well received by high audience numbers. When the opportunity arose to stage the show again, Savoyards jumped at the chance. Some of the original cast have returned to reprise their roles as well as introducing other Savoyards members to the 2019 cast.

SSILB operate a 24/7 emergency service and have done so for over 40 years. This is an important service on the Isle of Wight, which is solely run by volunteers through fundraising in the community.

Sister Act the Musical will be performed at Shanklin Theatre between Friday 23rd and Monday 26th August.
