Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team members headed off to Goodwood again on Thursday 24th June for the second round of the RCR Fat Creations Series.
First up were Kev Foster and Jerry Cooper in the 10 lap (25 miles) 3rd Cat race. The pace was fast from the off with several attacks from the front of the bunch.
Kev and Jerry were well placed, but on the penultimate lap there was a huge crash and the field split when the race was ‘red flagged’ due to injured riders being on the track. The bunch regrouped for the final lap and, although it was difficult to move up, Kev and Jerry managed to finish in the top half of the field.
In the E/1/2 race, Matt Allsopp and James Veal worked hard for Kev Chant to win the first Prime (sprint), but subsequently got caught out by the inevitable attack which followed and enabled 10 riders to get away. The rest of the bunch tried to chase them down for 9 laps, but the strength of the front group proved too much for the other riders.
The lads finished strong with the remainder of the field, Matt leading Kev out to finish 2nd in the bunch sprint and 11th overall.
