Staff at St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School in Carisbrooke have found an innovative way to teach children Island history through time – with thanks to Red Funnel.
To support history teaching in school, a timeline of Island history: from dinosaurs 120 million years ago, to the Isle of Wight Festival has been put up on display at the heart of the school.
The timeline, originally designed by Red Funnel to promote Isle of Wight history and heritage, was displayed onboard their ferry, Red Osprey, and enjoyed by many thousands of visitors to the Island. Following a recent refit, it was kindly donated to the school, ensuring future generations can continue to explore Island history.
A spokesperson for Red Funnel’s community engagement team said:
“We’re so happy that our Island history timeline could find a new home at St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School. We’re very passionate about celebrating the Island’s history and it’s wonderful to support young people in taking an interest and helping raise awareness for just how incredible the Island’s history really is.”
Headteacher Maggie Sanderson said:
“We are delighted with our timeline as a wonderful addition to our school displays. It is a very visual way to enrich the childrens’ learning further. I would like to thank Red Funnel personally for the valuable contribution to our school.”
