An interior designer based in Sandown has won the chance to show off her talents at the Grand Designs Live show in London’s ExCEl exhibition centre at the end of this month.
Island resident Janette Webb will be showcasing not only her own talent at the show, which attracted over 100,000 visitors, but that of Island businesses who are supplying furnishings and accessories to complete the set for her room.
Having worked for estate agents and homeowners on both the Island and the mainland, Janette had entered a Grand Designs competition for a room set based upon a favourite TV show. The brief was to “inspire visitors to the ‘Grand Designs Live 2017’ exhibition and encourage them to take home new ideas, information and supplier contacts”
Living on the Island Janette thought the perfect theme would be “Homes by the Sea” and submitted her mood board – but then heard nothing.
Janette says:
“We had gone away for a few days to celebrate my birthday. When we got back I had a message asking me to call a company called Media 10 in London. I was amazed when they told me I was one of the winning interior designers to be chosen to exhibit at the show. It is such a great privilege”
The decision was taken by Janette to use her suppliers on the Island so that it became an opportunity for several Island businesses too. She has been delighted at how keen they have been to help with the project.
“It is a real piece of teamwork. Timescales have been tight but everyone pitched in. Now we are going up to London to put Island creativity, flair and design on the map!”
The ‘Grand Designs Live 2017’ exhibition runs from Saturday 29th April to Sunday 7th May at the ExCel exhibition centre, Docklands, London, E16.
