Police are appealing for taxi drivers to come forward as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a 30-year-old man found unconscious with head injuries in a lay-by in Newport.
The man was found on Fairlee Road, Newport at 00:35 on Saturday (21st February). He was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for injuries to his head, which required stitches.
A 29-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until 21st April pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Victoria Hayward from Newport CID said:
“We are keen to speak to any taxi drivers who had a fare from Newport to Ryde between 9.30 and 10pm on Friday, February 20 and Ryde to Newport later that night, arriving no later than 12.40am.
“We’d also like to hear from any residents who may have witnessed an incident between the Southern Water entrance and the entrance to Island Harbour after midnight.”
