UPDATED: The identity of a kayaker found dead on Yaverland Beach in September has now been confirmed according to Hampshire Constabulary.
As first reported by Island Echo, the body was discovered in a kayak on Yaverland Beach on 11th September. Just days later Police launched an appeal to help identify the man, who had been traced back to a shop in Newhaven, Sussex.
With mystery continuing to surround the identify of the deceased, Police issued CCTV images on 22nd September and later an E-Fit on 8th October.
Today (Monday) Police have confirmed that the deceased’s next of kin have been informed of his death.
Formal identification will now take place ahead of the man being named publicly.
Hampshire Constabulary have said:
“We would like to thank the public for all their assistance in sharing our appeal”.
UPDATE TUESDAY: Police have today confirmed the body is that of Morgan Savage, 40, from Dublin.
A post mortem has proven inconclusive. The Island’s coroner is now awaiting histology results.
