Staff at Haven Falconry in Havenstreet have been left counting the cost of damage caused to the animal attraction following yesterday’s (Sunday’s) torrential downpours.
The falconary centre, situated at the IW Steam Railway, is seeking the help of fellow Islanders as thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused by the unseasonable storm. A torrent water flowed down the hill at speed, taking with it large amounts of earth.
A new area under development has been washed away with all materials lost to the force of nature. The materials had been slowly gathered over the lockdown period. As well as the coronavirus lockdowns, the centre has also been battling the Bird Flu restrictions previously imposed across the country.
Although all the animals are safe and well, a number of avairys have been flooded and those at the bottom of the hill are at risk as the land is continuing to slide away.
The rain has now cleared and the sun is shining but work is still underway to clear flood water and make the attraction safe for visitors once again.
Charlotte Gladdis, the centre’s co-owner, is appealing for help in the removal of the now-destroyed items from the river and then away from the site. Anyone who can help in any way is asked to contact Haven Falconry on 01983 716556.
