Anderson Boat Cruises have been awarded the Visit Isle of Wight Green Star Gold Award for sustainable businesses.
The Yarmouth-based company have been working for a while on becoming more eco-friendly, especially with the growing problem of plastics ending up in our oceans.
Crew have changed the way boat trips operate by pushing ‘reuse and recycle’ by getting rid of single use plastic altogether. There has also been an emphasis on promoting sustainable/economical transport to/from the mooring at Yarmouth Harbour.
Anderson Boat Cruises Ltd was presented with the award on Wednesday in a joint presentation with Isle of Wight Pearl, who have received the same award.
Jay Smith-Dowse from Anderson Boat Cruises has been working closely with Rossanne and Charley in the marketing team at Isle of Wight Pearl to link up and promote sustainability together – and will continue to do so moving forward.
Tim Anderson, owner of Anderson Boat Cruises Ltd and the ‘Coral Star’ said:
“We are very proud to have been presented with this award. We are committed to sustainability and are proving this by getting rid of single use plastic and in turn making sure less plastic ends up in our oceans. I have been working on the water for over 40 years and I can see the damage to the ecosystem that plastic is doing”.
Tim, who lives in Yarmouth and therefore can walk to work, has worked on many boats seen around the Solent including most recently skippering a Dredging Barge that has been working in Cowes Harbour.
Anderson Boat Cruises run trips daily out of Yarmouth Harbour on ‘Coral Star’ including sightseeing tours around The Needles or over to the Lymington Market on a Saturday.
