Despite the ban on public gatherings remaining in place, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has this morning (Monday) said that Islanders can now spend time with family and friends if they socially distance – but not at home.
Following last night’s confusing address to the nation by the Prime Minister, the waters have been muddied even further as the country is urged to “use some common sense”.
On BBC Breakfast on this morning, Mr Raab said:
“So we’ve said that as long as you go out of home, for the park, for exercise, whatever it may be, you can go with members of your own household.
“If you’re out in the park and you’re two metres apart… and use some common sense and you socially distance, you can meet up with other people.”
People still cannot visit others at home. Mr Raab, when pressed on whether people could meet others in a garden or driveway, said:
“We are not moving to a stage where we say that households can mix inside the home. So just to be absolutely clear, people cannot mix within the homes… and that advice is not changing.”
Britons are left feeling confused as they could still face a fine from Police if they gather with more then 1 other person from a separate household. When asked on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme whether someone could meet 2 parents at the same time, Mr Raab said “you could if there’s 2 metres apart”. However, on BBC Breakfast it was suggested by Mr Raab also that you could still only meet 1 other person at a time, but that could be a family member or friend.
In his address to the nation yesterday, the Prime Minister clearly stated you can “sit in the sun in your local park, you can drive to other destinations, you can even play sports but only with members of your own household” – which contradicts this morning’s comments from the Foreign Secretary.
The new rule is part of a 50-page guidance document to be published by the government later today.
UPDATE @ 10:15 – The Government has now swiftly moved to retract the earlier statement, clarifying that you can meet 1 person from outside your household in a park if you follow social distancing. You CANNOT meet 2 people from outside your household – such as both parents – at the same time.

I’ll do what I like when I like, if you dont like it come an arrest me.
Prick
Ohh you hard
And you’ll be one of the reason that the virus continues to spread, I will continue to do what I have been doing the only diffence is that I’ll go fishimg once every 2 weeks
Spot on Dan. Why should ANY Government tell us how to think and act without allowing us to have any wriggle room to use our own judgement?
In the war it was ‘acceptable’ to kill a German lad, because it ‘suited’ the Government safely at home, again away from the carnage others endured. Once HMG had a piece of paper signed then, to do so it was murder once more.
In the past it was fine to choose who you employed, then HMG lay down rules and stipulations, which again does not adversely effect them, but the employers.
They even stipulate what we can say and write now, so anything ‘they’ NOW deem fine, eg same sex marriage, unlimited immigration, smacking children, corporal punishment, green issues etc is ok, yet things that they once felt but no longer do, we ‘all’ have to now go ‘along’ with and are not even allowed to protest if we think differently to the modern thought process.
So Dan, so long as you do not put others at risk, I support your attitude, as so often Governments only do what is best for them, not us, unless the two rarely are ‘the same’.
Expect a heavy fine, it’s the likes of you that are stopping others to see and hug their family’s
“Your all stupid?”
I think you mean “YOU’RE all stupid”
Who’s stupid now?
were you driving a VW Polo earlier Danny t?
Danny tiller I bet fking wet wipe
I hope you catch the virus and die alone
Provide your address then clever dick we’ll pass on to police
Danny t. You are either a fu??ing idiot or a very scared person trying to big yourself up
It’s quiet simple people.
1, if you can work from home you must carry on doing so.
2, construction, factories, industry are allowed to start to go back to work but certain measures have to be in place.
3, from Wednesday you are allowed to go out more than once for exercise. You are allowed to drive to a park but only members from the same household.
4, you cannot go to other peoples houses and they cannot come to yours. 2 metre rule still applies.
5, if and only if the level is down schools may open in June, but only certain age groups to start with.
6, if and only if level is still falling then pubs, restaurants ect may be allowed to open but will have to.have measures in place.
The social distancing is still in place.
So for everyone complaining about he should relax some of the rules, just remember when on Wednesday you all get in your cars and rush to the parks, woods and beaches, you won’t be the only ones there so don’t complain that it was packed and people were not social distancing.
As yet Beaches are not included. Boris didn’t mention beaches at all. Parks yes because they are local to you, last thing anyone wants is people from here there & everyone coming to your Beaches. xx
Only because there’s no beaches in london…..
Danny t is probably a scummer no job no life who couldn’t care less bout anybody else but himself until he catches it then he will be crying like a baby
So now I can meet one parent at a time staying two mtr. apart…….but when in a shopping queue social distancing, my mum may be in front and my dad may be behind…………is that illegal or is it all bollox!
It’s all okay though if my family are all onboard the same plane because at present some 15000 people still fly into this joke every day. The government are only now thinking of quarantining them now.
Mmmm how do you chose Mum or Dad, Granny or Grandad.
Just hope the travel for exercise does not include loads flocking here from the mainland in their campers or cars with tents, they don’t need campsites… just pitch up anywhere…. need to use the supermarkets while they are here.
Quite simply stay away anyone considering coming over here.
easy for me my mum and dad are dead and my gran and grandad are dead
but yes i get your point and yes its all a load of pig poo
like i said before if we have been under house arrest for over 2 weeks and my family who dont live with me have all so been under house arrest for over 2 weeks with no sign of CV whats the problem going in to each others home
wasn’t this why we were put under house arrest same as they now say they are going to quarantine people coming in to the UK for 2 weeks then they are free to do what ever they want
so can I meet my friend one on one two meters apart on a driveway?
Can single mums meet one other person in a park?. They would have a child or baby with them. Otherwise they can’t meet anyone!
