A blaze has engulfed a garden on a residential street in Cowes tonight (Friday), with firefighters working to prevent it spreading to neighbouring properties.
Firefighters from Cowes and Newport are on scene off Elm Grove, where a shed has gone up in flames.
Plumes of black smoke can be seen from miles around as firefighters make efforts to douse the flames and bring the situation under control.
The fire erupted at around 21:35, with fire control mobilising 1 retained appliance from Cowes and 2 appliances from Newport.
UPDATE @ 22:28 – The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters remain on scene damping down the area.
A fourth appliance from Ryde has arrived in Cowes.
At least 2 gardens have been affected, but the cause is currently unknown.
UPDATE SATURDAY – It has been confirmed that an electrical fault is thought to be at blame.
Sadly, a number of birds perished in the fire.

Looking at the photo that looks like the garden was half full of sheds. This is why there are planning restrictions on the size of out buildings.
