An extremely versatile battery-charged intensive chair is now proving to be a valuable addition to equipment in St Mary’s Hospital’s Appley Ward, as a result of a £5,000 grant from the Friends of St Mary’s.
The chair can be lowered to enable it to be converted into a trolley, allowing nursing staff to roll a patient out of a bed onto the trolley without the need for a hoist.
The chair not only speeds up the recovery and independence of patients, but also makes it easier for nurses and physiotherapists to position patients.
Ward Sister Jo Payne said:
“This is so much safer and more comfortable for the patient. It is also ideal for respiratory patients who often will not sleep in the bed, and can instead sleep in the chair.
“A wonderful piece of equipment”.
