58-year-old Gary Andrew McDonald has been fined £80 for allowing the production of a Class B drug at his home in Freshwater.
Police executed a warrant at an address on Terrance Lane back in 2019 and found a sophisticated cannabis setup across 3 bedrooms and a garage, the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, explained to Magistrates how McDonald had returned home during the raid and admitted being the occupant. However, it wasn’t him that was growing the cannabis.
It’s said that Gary allowed a friend to used ‘a bedroom’ to grow the Class B drug with the intention of making a profit to pay off debt. The friend was investigated by Police but no further action was taken due to a lack of evidence.
The bench heard that McDonald was taken advantage of due to his state of mind and it was made clear that he was not involved in the production or supply of cannabis personally, but did allow the activity to take place.
He was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 with a £30 surcharge.
