UPDATED: You may take to the popular auction website eBay to grab a pair of bargain shoes, or perhaps a charging cable for your phone. But now you can buy a piece of Isle of Wight firefighting history with the listing of a former Ryde appliance.
The 1964 Bedford TK would have once screamed through the streets to aid those in peril, in a time when fire safety was somewhat primitive to today’s standards. It would have gleamed a brilliant red and had been considered a top of the range, life-saving vehicle.
Although the colour has now faded and it hasn’t been used in anger for decades, the appliance still carries a number of original features such as the large escape ladder and a variety of hoses. It even still carries the words ‘RYDE’.
The fire engine, which has covered just 21,000 miles since new, was seen on display at rallies in the late 80s.
