Red Funnel has appointed a new Chairman following Kevin George’s retirement from the Board.
With effect from 7th July 2021, Steve Ridgway CBE joins the Red Funnel Board as Chair, bringing extensive experience in the Transport, Aviation and Infrastructure sectors having held roles such as Chairman of Baltic ferry operator Scandlines, Chief Executive of Virgin Atlantic Airways and Chairman of the BTA (Visit Britain and Visit England).
Fran Collins, Chief Executive of Red Funnel, said:
“Steve will support the strategic development of Red Funnel, ensuring we are meeting the needs of the Isle of Wight and continuing to support the local economy for decades to come.
“With an unrivalled knowledge of the UK tourism market, Steve’s role at Visit England and Visit Britain saw him raise the game of British tourism, working closely with the Government, supporting SME’s and small businesses and supporting UK tourism pre and post the London 2012 Olympics. His focus on customer service at these brands is second to none and will complement Red Funnel’s commitment to First Class Customer Service.”
Steve Ridgway CBE, Chair at Red Funnel, said:
“I lived in the Solent area for many years and developed a great affection for Red Funnel as a key local company. My appointment as Chair comes during a time of post-lockdown recovery, and it’s essential we are able to support businesses on both sides of the Solent to ensure that the Isle of Wight benefits from the renewed opportunities for holidaying in the UK”.

Maybe the ferry travel cost will drop to aviation travel rates!
Maybe the Ferries will run a decent service
Send in the clowns for red-funny
By the time he fills his boots with salary and bonus the prices will double again like they have in the last three years. As long as we have a parliament full of two faced civil servants nothing will be done about it.
“Red Funnel’s commitment to First Class Customer Service” !?!?!?
First Class Service!!!! What FIRST CLASS SERVICE??
Is it FIRST CLASS to make customers sit around for hours for a delayed SERVICE????
I think Not!!!!
I used to work in the RF call centre. One time I had a bit of stubble and one of my managers came down with a razor and a can of shaving cream and put it on my desk in front of every when I was on a call. They’re an awful company. I was not even face to face with the customers. Managers are all bullies who dream of moving onto bigger companies. It’s a stepping stone off the isle of Wight for them. 😀
