Could you be one of the Isle of Wight Council’s highest-paid officers? The authority is looking for a new director of children’s services as it parts ways with Hampshire County Council and looks to build the department up again.
Whoever the successful candidate may be, the Isle of Wight Council will pay them up to £117,850 a year to lead the service which looks after Island schools and children’s welfare.
One of the main challenges the director will have to focus on includes dealing with the issue of surplus places in primary schools which could lead to closures.
The council has agreed to end its ten-year strategic partnership with Hampshire — which helped improve the Island’s services — and go out on its own, building a service to suit the Isle of Wight’s unique needs.
In September the authority agreed, while it would provide some services, it would buy back others from Hampshire as things settled down.
In the job advert, Wendy Perera, the council’s chief executive said the Island was at a turning point with a new senior team committed to driving forward the authority’s vision.
She said:
“We are excited to be offering this unique opportunity to build on strong foundations and create an independent service to be proud of.”
The closing date for applications is 18th October.

Disgusting wage. Yes the job might be tough, but come on. Jerk Jordan at the helm of the “HMS Drunken Council” This is really is p*****g on the islanders from a great height isn’t it. Funny, on indeed.com at the bottom of the job description it says “please do not share this information” now they have gone public.
The job is worth £30k p.a. tops. We have to pay this from our council tax. disgusted.
another over paid job £50.000 would be more like it. but it is the isle of Wight council and they do like there very high wages. never mind the islanders will pay it. £117’000 would be better spent on the island drug slums
Another over paid role, more of my hard grafting money being spent on
high salaries
What hard grafting cowboy builder
Well one thing is for sure.
It won’t be an islander,There strong in the arm and thick in the head.
More like needle in the arms and thick in the head.
Just abandon the schools and get the kids training in cleaning, hospitality, and dodgem handling. That is their future.
There’s people out there who save lives fixes the boiler to stop people freezing to death and roofers stopping the water penetrating your house working for less than a third of that wage, and the fringe benefits that come with it disgusting absolutely disgusting
And most of them are useless swindlers.
The kiddy snatchers who have no care for anybody but money. That sort of money is discusting
its just breathtakingly ridicules.
Its the Council. We all know what they are like on the Isle of Wight.
They need investigating.
Its too much money. Disgusting.
You can be the director of childrens services if you have friends in the right places and that’s all it boils down to.
And this is
why we don’t have have a decent service!!!!!!!.on the iow ….
Because they overpay Numptys ….
I don’t think the Prime minister gets near that !!!!
He does with all the other perks he gets
Pay too high , too many chiefs and not enough indians , get more in debt yet again and good old general public will come along and pick up the cost of the deficit
Where do ‘they’ come up with all this fantasy dialogue. Figments of their limited imagination and self justification and aggrandisement. Over remunerated drain at tax payers expense.
Stupid salary.
But, it’s probably about the average across the country.
Still a stupid salary though.
