The number of lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight now sits at 198, according to the latest information from Public Health England.
Previously, the total sat at 196 but a further 2 cases have been confirmed in today’s data. It is the first increase in the number of cases since Sunday. The local infection rate now sits at 139.9.
NHS England report that there have now been 38 coronavirus deaths in hospital, with the Office for National Statistics confirming a further 26 people have died in the community. This brings the total Isle of Wight death toll to 64, as of today.
35 hospital recoveries have been recorded, but it is unknown how many people within the community have recovered from COVID-19 after testing positive.
Nationally, the coronavirus crisis is being brought under control with a steady decline in the number of deaths and new cases.
The ONLY numbers we can be sure of is over half ‘who go in’ never will leave hospital if CV cases and that now it is over 40% of care homes now infected with CV.
Guessing the amount at home who have recovered, or are yet to get it, is just that, guessing.
Facts are ‘all’ we can rely on to inform us of what WE should be doing, not some Government, whose bigger picture plan, may well not be the same as our ‘more family focused’ idea of how to proceed to the next stage.
So stay safe do what you think is best, for no one will ever care more for you than you.

I just hope its not a steady increase in confirmed cases.
The easing of lock down isn’t supposed to start till 1st June, so is this bump an indication of people not staying in lock down/distancing or something else?
If its due to people starting their own easing of the lock down because of the DC/Boris saga, then gawd help us as to what is going to happen within days of the 1st June ! ! ! !
You could be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t even a lockdown anyway, given the number of stinking barbecues polluting the atmosphere with horrible cloying smell of burnt meat and grease.
That will only increase now I guess, it already started here Saturday night, people out in their garden til after midnight, loud women’s voices screeching in maniacal laughter, went on for hours,. Vile.
Pity anyone who just wants a bit of peace and quiet and can’t even hear the birds sing anymore because of all the increased noise, another woman had a stinking bonfire earlier with smoke going all across the road, traffic having to slow down to drive through it, so at least that was something , and people coughing having to walk through it so one wondered if they had the virus.

That is the number per 100,000 people who have been infected. Translates to the 198 for the total population of the Island ~ 140,000.

If it’s 139.9 people then presumably the .9 refers to somebody who is an amputee.
The different Nations, Regions, UTLAs and LTLAs vary enormously in population size. Areas with larger populations will tend to have more cases than those with smaller populations. To account for the different population sizes, rates are calculated. The count for each area is divided by the total population and multiplied by 100,000.
The 139.9 infection rate just tells us the number of people who have tested positive per 100,000 of the population. It would be almost, but not quite, true if 100,000 had been tested, As it is we have no idea what the infection rate is because we have no idea how many people have been infected and not tested who are, hopefully, self isolating
Well the amount of car’s that is now on the road has doubled. Since the restrictions was changed. Social distances have gone especially in big shops. So second wave will be coming soon.

Ok AMA, that’s a good idea, let’s have names and ages of the poor folk that have died. Then while condolence can but said, we could then see if these poor folk were already seriously ill. You might not know this AMA, and it my shock you ,but people do died, and of other illness then b.s over inflated covid 19. Think!
