A large cheque has provided an unexpected and most welcome postscript to a rescue by Cowes RNLI lifeboat in the Solent earlier this week.
As first reported by Island Echo, the volunteer lifeboat crew launched to assist an injured yachtsman off Norris Buoy on Wednesday. The injured man had been on 1 of the 29 40ft yachts taking part in the annual Cowes-based UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge.
The crew of Cowes RNLI were invited to the final awards presentation at Cowes Yacht Haven to receive a ‘thank you’ cheque for £1,500, which will be passed on to the charity’s Poole headquarters.
