FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO FLAT BLAZE IN RYDE

imageUPDATED: Firefighters are this afternoon (Friday) in attendance at a flat fire in Ryde, where persons have been reported to be inside the building.

Appliances from Ryde, Newport and East Cowes have been mobilised to the scene at Tredegar House alongside fire officers and the Incident Command Unit.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the property at 13:10.

Four breathing apparatus sets are being used alongside two hose reels, with a total of four pumping appliances attending the incident.

Several ambulances have been sent to the scene and Police have closed Wood Street.

imageUPDATE @ 14:05 – The fire, contained to a first floor flat, has been extinguished.

UPDATE @ 14:55 – One casualty has been left in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service this afternoon.

The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

UPDATE @ 15:40 – Police have confirmed that one man has died following this afternoon’s fire.
