Firefighters have this morning (Thursday) extinguished a small fire at Wightlink’s Yarmouth ferry terminal.
Staff raised the alarm with the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service at 06:20 when the terminal building began to become filled with smoke after a toaster caught fire in the adjoining Yarmouth Harbour Commission’s mess room.
The town’s own fire crew have now extinguished the fire using a hose reel and have removed both the toaster and a microwave from the building. A staff member from Wightlink initially tackled the small fire.
The premises was evacuated safely and no one has been injured in the incident.
The company’s cross-Solent service is unaffected.
