FIRE SERVICE CALLED TO ASSIST PONY IN DITCH

Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue LogoUPDATED: Firefighters are this morning (Friday) working to free a pony that has become stuck in a ditch on the outskirts of Newport.

Two appliances and a specialist animal rescue unit are in attendance at the scene at Goshens Farm on Staplers Road, after being alerted to the situation shortly before 09:00.

Crews are working to free the 3-year-old animal using lift equipment.

UPDATE @ 10:00 – The pony has been successfully rescued by firefighters.

The animal’s owner and a vet are now taking care of the mare.
