Engine issues onboard Red Funnel’s Red Eagle vehicle ferry – which only returned to service this morning (Saturday) – has led to the cancellation of at least 2 sailings, with the potential for disruption to services all day.
Red Eagle departed East Cowes at 06:30 but as the ferry headed up Southampton Water, an engine issue developed. The vessel came to a complete halt near Netley at 07:10.
Shockingly, Red Eagle only returned to operational service first thing this morning followed an extended period in dry dock at Falmouth, then moored up in Southampton awaiting regulatory inspection.
Those travelling to Southampton are still onboard the recently refitted Eagle, slowly making progress up Southampton Water.
Red Funnel has cancelled the 08:00 from Southampton and the 09:30 from East Cowes as a result.
It remains to be seen if the fault can be resolved to ensure no other cancellations hit the cross-Solent service this weekend.
UPDATE @ 08:09 – The 11:00 from Southampton and the 12:30 from East Cowes have now also been cancelled.
Red funnel are more concerned about passengers with dogs, not allowing them to sit on the seats in the dog friendly lounge. Yet children are allowed to leave sticky sweets and food crumbs, they are sitting in the dog lounge when they don’t even own a dog.
If Red Funnel concentrated on maintaining their Ferries instead of going woke perhaps the island would have a reliable ferry service.
Red Funnel and reliable will never be used in a full positive sentence.
What a shambles of a company. Fixed then breaks. Cost cutting obviously. Oh and Red Funnel, STILL no accounts showing up as filed with company house, what are they hiding???
