Clothes left abandoned on Ventnor beach sparked an emergency call to the Coastguard this morning (Tuesday).
HM Coastguard received reports of a pile of clothing and towels on the beach with no signs of any potential owner in the area.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was paged and tasked with conducting a shoreline search for any signs of a person in difficulty.
No signs were found and the incident was declared a false alarm with good intent.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
