All schools on the Isle of Wight are to be closed on the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral next week (Monday).
This announcement comes after King Charles III declared the day a national bank holiday during his proclamation on Saturday.
This will allow for children across the Island, and their parents, to watch the procession of the funeral when it starts at 11:00.
Some Island schools like Haylands Primary School in Ryde have already explicitly announced their closure, whilst other educational institutes are set to do the same in due course.
In a statement released on their website, the government has said:
“Schools will be closed, we are not asking them to remain open on the day of the bank holiday.”
Whilst it is expected that most businesses will close for at least a part of the day to allow people to watch the funeral, some parents who work in other more frontline sectors may have to make last-minute childcare arrangements.

Trouble is that day care providers are also not working! So where are working parents going to find it. Why didn’t school just have whole day celebrating the Queen’s life and watching the ceremony. Most kid’s at home will be more interested in computer games!.
Given that everyone on the island is related, I don’t believe there’s no one to step in and help with childcare for the day.
What a ridiculous comment to make! There’s more overners here now than culkheads. Childcare costs more than what you get in your pay packet. Not everyone can palm there kids off onto others!
If you can get them when they are young, you’ll have a life long follower. Maybe they should spend they day learning about not only the queens life but the legacy of the royal family, warts and all. Learn some of the true history, how they stole the land from the people and sold it to heir mates.
St George’s Hill, Weybridge. The most expensive gated community in the world. Was once common land. The government and the Royal family organised gangs to attack on the Diggers then later sent the army in and killed them all!
Google it, learn your real history and not the royalist propaganda.
In 1649 right? Yeah I’m sure this was totally Liz’s fault and completely relevant to the article……… Duh
Why don’t you take a look at the history of the Romans and take a look at what they stole, you bloody communist are always winging about something….
The world was a very different place hundreds of years ago, nations attacked each other all over the world….and still do too this day…
If it is a national bank holiday, why are people working ? Thought everything closed on a bank holiday ??
Hospital workers and carers and many more will not be having a day off! Think about it!
Are you serious? Have you ever been to St Mary’s on a normal Sunday? Skeleton staff is an understatement. God help anybody that gets Ill on a weekend or Bank holiday
Like we need another xxx bank holiday!! Kids should be in school, they’ve only just got back for goodness sake and yes, time would be better spent celebrating her long reign and life. Actually learn something interesting and relevant for a change?!
