Exciting plans for a new eatery to be established on the site of the former Lifeboat View Cafe in Bembridge have been announced by the owners of Seaview’s The Old Fort.
The seafront location overlooking Bembridge Lifeboat Station was previously occupied by 3 flats and a café, but in September 2018 the popular establishment was demolished to make way for a smaller replacement.
The Isle of Wight Council approved the demolition and building works to allow for an extension to the building that housed the 3 flats – now converted into 1 house – and the building of a new café.
However, by early 2019 a separate planning application was submitted to change the plans somewhat. Under the new proposals submitted, the house was going to be extended with a boathouse built out front – removing the cafe element of the scheme. At the same time, an application was submitted to run a takeaway food van alongside a small kiosk.
After more than 900 locals objected to the plans, the application was withdrawn.
Now, 4 years later, it has been revealed that Will Simonds and Justin Evelegh, of SE-VIEW Group, plan to bring back food and drink to Lane End.
The duo recently rejuvenated The Old Fort at Seaview and are now setting their sites on Bembridge, following their vision of transforming existing businesses and creating new vibrant spaces; providing much-needed and out-of-the-ordinary places for all to enjoy.
Planning for the new establishment, named The View, is well underway with investment being actively sought.
Announcing their plans, Will and Justin have said:
“We couldn’t be more proud of all the team and absolutely thrilled to share this exciting news of our latest site with you all. More details coming soon
The View is set to open in Summer 2024.

Pipe dream then, looking for a sugar daddy to invest ?
Long as they make it tasteful and universal rather than a Londistan style, hipster beardery,’artisan’ rip-offery arrangement to flatter Bembridges brown-enveloped demographics, all fine and dandy.
Excellent! Have eaten at the Old Fort a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hmm. Naming it ‘The View” while simultaneously ruining the view.
Clever.
I’m sure it will look a lot better than the mess that it is now.
As long as its not like the bay cafe at the dover fake bimbo’s and drug dealers thats what its know as now
