A man in his 60s is being treated in hospital after being involved in a hit and run collision in Gurnard this morning (Tuesday).
Police were called at 07:57 to reports of a pedestrian collision on Cockleton Lane.
Island Echo understands that a van – thought to be a taxi – collided with the male before simply driving off. The vehicle has been described as being a large people carrier/mini-van/possible taxi.
Oncoming vehicles had to swerve out of the way of the taxi, described as being on the wrong side of the road.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the casualty, a male in his 60s, sustained minor injuries.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting 44240492486.
The way I have seen Taxi’s drive on this lawless
Island, anyone would think that Taxis think
they are an emergency service.
(They are just overcharging vehicles, cheaper
to use a bus)
Catch the B’stard and take away their Taxi
Licence, keep out roads safe.
I pray the person is well.
It’s about time IW Council made our Roads safe
Install camera’s to catch these B’stards.
Cocelton Lane should be one way as parts are far to tight to pass 2 vehicles and the narrow road and tight corners make it a death trap for pedestrians and cyclists
Hopefully someone has dash cam footage
The prices that taxis charge are set by the council not by the Taxi operators.
The charges are daylight robbery.
£2 on a bus to Freshwater from Seaview
Great value.
How much would a Taxi charge
I think you’ll find it’s £2 per bus, so 3 buses from Seaview to Freshwater would be £6, not £2. Still better than a taxi though.
That is true, but a short stroll to Ryde Esplanade then
1 Bus
2 buses you’ll find. One to Newport then one to freshwater.
Not for much longer soon going up to £3 so immagrunts get free london travel..
£3 still cheaper than Island Taxi’s
And are highway robbery (no pun intended!). Can’t wait for Uber to muscle their way in.
