Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are currently on the scene at Simeon Street, Ryde alongside Police and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The car has crashed through a young couple’s garden and straight into their flat opposite the Simeon Arms pub.
Working with paramedics, firefighters have extricated the couple, who are thought to have escaped any serious injury, through the boot of the vehicle. Both have been left in the care of the ambulance service.
Island Echo understands the car collided with another vehicle in the small car park before ploughing down a flight of stairs and into the flat, which is home to a young couple and their 8-month-old child – all three have escaped uninjured.
The car has been made safe by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, however it is currently unclear what damage has been sustained to the building.
It is believed the male driver and his passenger are local to the area.
Emergency services have now left the scene, with both the driver and passenger conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
A sewage pipe connected to properties in the upper half of the building has been destroyed, resulting in raw sewage being emptied into the stairway.
UPDATE TUESDAY: It has been confirmed that both the female and male trapped inside the vehicle last night have been discharged from hospital.
